With portions of East Texas ravaged by Hurricane Laura, the Seguin High School FFA hopes to help stock up necessities for fellow FFA members.
The high school organization is hosting a Stock the Stock Trailer donation drive to deliver to fellow FFA families in Orange.
“When Hurricane Laura hit, we knew many of our FFA chapter members and family members in East Texas were hit hard, especially in Orange,” Seguin High School agriculture teacher Krysta Canham said.
During teacher in-service, Canham and her teaching partner Cody Owens began to brainstorm on ways to help.
After contacting the Orange FFA Chapter, they decided on hosting a donation drive.
“We figured the best way was to come together as a community and help those other FFA members and chapters out by providing something that they needed,” Canham said. “He gave us a list of items and said anything we can give them will help.”
Owens came up with the idea of Stock the Stock Trailer as a way to not only collect the items but make them easy to deliver, Canham said.
“We wanted to put it where it was in town and easily accessible where people can just drop off,” she said.
The trailer is parked in the teacher parking lot on Lamar Street. Donations can be left in the trailer and, throughout the day, students will organize it. Auto Group of Seguin, 339 W Court St., is a secondary collection site, Canham said.
Requested items include water, canned food/non-perishable foods, bug spray, cleaning supplies and hygiene products.
The donation drive will start Monday and end Friday. Canham and Ownes will deliver the donations on Saturday.
