Doris Mae Henderson Hammock was born March 4, 1925 in Seguin Texas, to Walter M. Henderson and Helen Maurer Henderson. She was the oldest of nine children with four sisters and five brothers. She passed away on June 20, 2019 in Seguin, Texas at the age of 94.

Though Doris was born in the front bedroom of her maternal grandparent’s house on Convent Street in Seguin, she grew up in Humble, Texas. After she graduated from Humble High School, she moved to Houston where she worked in a soda shop for a short time and as an operator at the phone company.

It was in Humble that Doris met the love of her life, Toney Warren Hammock. They were married on December 4, 1943 in Houston, Texas shortly before Toney was shipped overseas.

After Toney’s discharge from the Navy, they resided in the Houston area and began their family.

In 1953, Doris and Toney moved to Seguin where their family continued to grow. Once all five of her own children began school, Doris’ love of children led her back to work as a kindergarten teacher at First Presbyterian Church. She taught there several years and then went to work for First National Bank in the bookkeeping department.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Seguin since 1954. She was active in church life as an officer of the church and led many Women’s Circle groups.

Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Toney Hammock and their son James Warren Hammock.

Doris is survived by their four children: Joyce Hammock Estes (Waynne) of Georgetown, Texas; Alan Hammock (Dawn) of Cleburne, Texas; Rosemary Hammock Webster (Hal) of Seguin, Texas; William Douglas Hammock (Bonnie) of Washington, Texas. She is also survived by her sisters Pat Sherrouse (Cliff) and Margie Smith (Chuck); six grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Doris’ family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Seguin for the loving care provided to her in the final years of her life.

Visitation will begin on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 9 am at First Presbyterian Church of Seguin followed by funeral services at 10 am with Pastor Andrew Lemlyn officiating. Interment will follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Hammock, Douglas Hammock, Troy Vinyard, Shelby Patek, Davin Alexander, and Waynne Estes.
