William E. (Bill) Bender, age 78 of Seguin, passed away on April 4, 2011.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 2 to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jeremy Roy officiating. Private family interment will be held at the Bender Family Cemetery. Bill was born on Feb. 12, 1933 in New York City, New York to William R. and Valerie Bamberg Bender. He was raised in Maplewood, N.J. where he graduated from Columbia High School.
He came to Texas as an Air Force Cadet where he learned to fly at Hondo, Texas. He was discharged from Gary Air Force Base in San Marcos, Texas. He graduated with a BBA from Southwest Texas State Teachers College. He worked as an insurance adjuster for USAA.
He graduated from St. Mary's University Law School with the degree of Doctorate of Jurisprudence. He moved to Seguin and began a law practice sharing an office with Dr. Allen Heinen at the Oak Park Shopping Center.
In 1995 he served on the Bench as the District Judge of the 274th District Court that covered Guadalupe, Comal, Hays and Caldwell Counties. After retiring as a Senior District Judge he continued sitting as a visiting judge. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Patricia J. (Pat) Bender; children, Bill Wilson Bender, Debra Seiler and husband Michael, Richard Bender and wife Michelle, Mark Joseph Even and wife Joyce, Paul Lucas Even and wife Tina, and Libby Even; brother, George Bender and wife Maribeth; nine grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
