UPCOMING

BOOK CLUB — Join the new and Book Chat Club, Wednesday, July 9, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Marion Community Library, 500 Bulldog Lane.

TOASTMASTERS MEETING — The next Toastmaster’s meeting will be held at noon on Tuesday, July 8, in the Guadalupe Regional Medical Center Boardroom. For more information call 401-2473.

STORYSPINNERS MEETING — The Storyspinners will meet at the Library on Wednesday, July 9, at 6 p.m.

LODGE MEETING — Guadalupe Lodge No. 109, Seguin’s only Masonic lodge will have a meeting on Thursday, July 10. There will be a meal at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting to begin at 7:30 p.m. All members of Guadalupe Lodge are urged to attend and all Master Mansions are invited to attend.

FRIDAY DANCE — The Silver Center Friday Night Dance will feature the music of the Texas Top Hands on July 11, from 7:30-11 p.m. Admission is $8. Homemade sandwiches are available for a light supper starting at 6:30.

FAMILY DAY — Sebastopol is hosting Family Day events each month. On Saturday, July 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., they will have a fun free “Marble Painting” activity open to everyone who wants to come by.

SIEMPRE SUSTAINABLE — Siempre Sustainable Network, a group of concerned community members focused on issues of sustainability, will hold their monthly meeting on Monday, July 14, at 7 p.m. at 607 Jefferson Avenue, Sample Society (park in back of building). A potluck dinner begins at 6 p.m. The film “Affluenza” will be shown. For more information, please call (830) 379-8033.

BBQ SALE — The Knights of Columbus Council 3412 will be selling barbecue chicken on Sunday, July 13. Chicken will be sold after all the Sunday masses at Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. James Catholic churches and also at the pits behind the K.C. from 8:30 to noon. Price is $5 for a whole chicken.

PLANT SOCIETY — The Lindheimer Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas will meet Tuesday, July 15, at 7 p.m. in the GVTC Auditorium, 36101 FM 3159 Smithson Valley, New Braunfels. Jackie Poole will speak on “Native and Rare Plants of Central Texas.”

HALL BENEFIT — Mary Stakes and family will be hosting a benefit for Leticia Hall, a 25-year-old mother of two who is battling cancer, at the Palace Theater on July 16, at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 and will feature music by Big Daddy Dean and A Touch of Jazz. There will also be a bake sale. All proceeds will go directly to Hall and her two children.

AGGIE MOMS — The Aggies Moms club will host its inaugural Howdy Dinner featuring the Aggie Senior Yell Leaders. The event will be Saturday, July 19, at the Texas Lutheran University Party Barn at 6 p.m. Presale tickets are available at Tri-County A/C, Gift and Gourmet and Keepers.

ART SHOW — S.O.A.L calls for entries. They are looking for artists to participate in their fantasy theme show “Feather.” Call Kris at (830) 401-4392 or Roger at (830) 372-4479. The deadline is July 19.

SOCCER REGISTRATION — Seguin Youth Soccer Fall Registration runs until Friday, Aug. 8. Registration forms can be picked up and returned to Lori Riebe at First Commercial Bank, N.A. Registration will be $65 per player. Games will begin on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Seguin High School practice fields. MEDICAL SUPPLIES — Gently-used medical supplies such as canes, walkers, crutches and other items are needed and can be brought by the Silver Center office. Donations will be loaned to residents who need them but lack the financial resources to purchase them.

SUICIDE SUPPORT — The Suicide Group meets every first and third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at Emanuel’s Lutheran Church. For more information call the church at 379-5046 or Lester Larson at 660-7503.

AL-ANON — Al-Anon meetings are held at 10 a.m., Fridays, at Faith Lutheran Church. No children, please. The meetings are for those who struggle with alcohol. For more information, call 379-4773.

CHAKRA WORKSHOP — Deveta Haffner will offer a workshop on Chakras on Mondays from 7:30-9 p.m. at Unity Church, 408 Gruene Road, New Braunfels. For more information, call (830) 608-9515. The workshop centers on the belief that there are seven energy/power centers in the body, and illness is caused when centers are out of balance. During the workshop, you will learn about the Chakras and how to balance them, which can improve your spiritual, mental and physical well being.

HISTORY GROUP — At 4 p.m., the second Sunday of each month, the Lone Star Living History Association holds its monthly meeting at the Universal City Library, 100 Northview. Those interested in living history or re-enacting Texas history are welcome to attend.

MARION DIPLOMAS — Marion High School senior diplomas are ready to be picked up at the High School office. They can be picked up Mondays- through- Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

TOPS MEETING — TOPS TX No. 1201, Seguin meets every Friday morning from 9-11 a.m. at the Seguin Library. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a weight loss support group open to anyone interested in weight loss and healthy living. For information, contact Pat Riecks at 303-5059.

GRUENE ORCHID — The Gruene Orchid Society of New Braunfels normally meets the first Tuesday of each month. Visitors and new members are welcome. Anyone having an interest in the culture and beauty of orchids is encouraged to attend.

BOWLING CLUB — Barbarossa Bowling Club is signing up bowlers for the next series to begin on June 16. Teams, couples or singles can sign up as long as each team maintains a ratio of two women and four men. For information, call (830) 609-5514.
