SEGUIN — Seguin ISD trustees will continue looking at plans for a revamped Seguin High School during a workshop tonight.

Architectural firms ERO and Huckabee/O’Connell Robertson will make presentations at 6 p.m. in the SISD boardroom. The two firms were among six that made presentations to the board during a workshop in January.

During the regular meeting that follows at 7 p.m., trustees may also vote to allow Superintendent Irene Garza to negotiate contract terms with the firms.

“Last fall the district issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for architectural firms. In January the board hosted six of these firms to provide presentations and followed up with a workshop. Tuesday night’s workshop further narrows the firm selection as the board continues with facility discussions,” Garza said Monday.

I hope when presenting their plans for a new high school, they go to the public with better PR skills than before. But if a school district is unable to enforce something as simple as a dress code, I don't know if they are capable of building a school within the taxpayers means. Dress it up, put lipstick on it but the fact remains that SISD has a bad reputation as being a gang banger school where little is done to enforce rules because board members, admistators and teachers don't wont to infringe on someone's "culture".

I'm OK with a NEW high school. I believe it should be built on the South to Southwest side of Seguin across the river. Use the old high school for the "problem" students from elementry to high school. Of course if we kept both new and old maybe we could get dropped to 2A status and win some games.

Seguin doesn't need a new high school, the one we have is fine. They didn't need the sign that was a waste of money, but they do need to upgrade their teaching ways, they haven't changed since my daughter graduated and her daughter just graduated. That's bad.

At a certain point educational facilities need to be upgraded. Even the old iconic campuses are upgraded within their walls and new buildings built around them. Kids are different today and they need new environments to challenge and help them thrive. Good Luck SISD!

I oppose a "remodeling" of the High School; as previously proposed. Perhaps a NEW high school is much better!!

As for location: NOT West - agriculture and expensive land. NOT North- agriculture and expensive land. NOT East - land expensive since City is "growing" that way.

SOUTH is best - Sand and Mesquite!!
