After BS Brewery won a gold medal for it’s brown ale — Pecan Ale with Honey — at the inaugural Can Can Awards, it’s now time for the business to focus on making more of its beer to ship out.
“The craft beer community looks at those awards and so our name is going to get out there even further ... people are going to hear about us more often and look for us on the shelves,” Jenna Schoemokel, co-owner and office manager of BS Brewing said.
Putting more of the award-winning Pecan Ale on shelves was just what BS Brewing was doing Friday morning as they canned the beer to ship to a new city for distribution.
“This next batch is going to be the first time it’s heading out to San Antonio,” Brian, co-owner of BS Brewing and Jenna’s husband said. “We’re already here in Seguin at H-E-B, Twin Liquors, and local liquor stores and restaurants. So, it’s just been an expansion and trying to keep up with it.”
For the past 3 1/2 years, BS Brewing has expanded its beer by serving it on tap in Seguin, San Marcos, New Braunfels, Georgetown, Round Rock and San Antonio.
“I was just a student going to college, making beer in my garage and all of a sudden we’re here,” Brian said. “People enjoy drinking our beer and we’re making a lot of it.”
“It’s been a crazy ride, but I wouldn’t change it for anything,” Jenna added.
According to the Can Can Awards’ website, there were 17 judges from across the southeast that were given a blind taste test. Two judges were level two Cicerone or higher, three were professional brewers themselves, and nine had completed a Beer Judge Certification program in a Recognized rank or higher.
Brian said about 250 beers were submitted for more than 32 categories.
