Leif Benavides smiled and waved as he rode through town on his 8-year-old mule, Cooter.

Benavides, who serves as the assistant trail boss for the Mesquite Trail Drivers, helped guide the group of horse riders and wagons safely through Seguin on Monday to their overnight camping spot, the parking lot of Pin Twist Bowling Alley.
