Saying they never intend to use it, Guadalupe County Commissioners Court members on Tuesday approved a provision allowing the court to possibly ratify a property tax increase of up to 8%.

The move comes after the statewide disaster Gov. Greg Abbott declared due to COVID-19. Legislators included in the tax code a provision allowing taxing entities in disaster areas to calculate a special 8% increase without voter approval.
