Residents will be happy to know, Seguin recently was named one of the safest suburbs in the San Antonio Metro area by a ranking and review website.
“We’re always thrilled to hear that Seguin is getting noticed as a great place to work, live and play,” Seguin Public Information Officer Morgan Ash said. “Safety is key. Families need to feel they can enjoy their communities without worry of illegal activity.”
Based off of crime rates for murder, assault, rape, burglary and other statistics in the FBI Uniform Crime Report, Niche.com named Seguin 23 out of 29 cities on the 2016 Safest Suburbs in San Antonio Metro list.
“The 2016 Safest Suburbs ranking provides a comprehensive assessment of the overall safety at the suburb level,” the company said. “This grade takes into account key indicators of a location’s safety, including violent and property crime rates, in an attempt to measure an area’s safety and security.”
According to Ash, the city has seen a steady decrease in the Uniform Crime Rate over the past 5 years, including a 12 percent decrease in 2015.
“Our law enforcement takes pride in working with our residents to ensure we keep this a safe place now and in the future,” she said. “We recognize and appreciate that our officers hustle each and everyday, and they ‘get’ our organizational mission of ‘proactive policing in partnership with the community and a commitment to service.’ A 12 percent overall decrease in reported crimes is something all our police officers should be proud of.”
When asked about why it’s important to be labeled a safe city, Ash answered that it helps to keep current residents feeling safe as well as making it easier to attract guests and potential people looking to move to the area.
“A major factor in creating a home is a sense of security,” she said. “We want everyone to feel safe and secure to settle down here and enjoy our close-knit, fun community. We plan to keep climbing up that list to number one safest.”
Other cities that were ranked in Guadalupe County as one of the safest suburbs in the San Antonio Metro included Cibolo, Schertz and Universal City.
