The Mexican-American war was fought from April 25, 1846, to Feb. 2, 1848, with Mexico being defeated.

Mexico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in which Mexico ceded its claims to Texas as well as other regions in what is now the southwestern United States, and the Rio Grande was accepted by both nations as the border. In return, the U.S. paid Mexico $15 million and assumed all Mexican debts owed to Texas citizens.

Floyd McKee is a native of Seguin. He is a retired Air Force Colonel and eight of his ancestors were among the 33 Rangers that organized and developed Walnut Springs and Seguin.
