Sometimes, all you can do is survive. Survival seems to be an overarching theme for Texas college football teams so far this season. To a casual observer, these Texas teams squeaking out wins over seemingly inferior opponents may feel like foreshadowing of a long season. However, don’t lose hope, because sometimes, survival against inferior opponents can lead to resiliency against more powerful teams. For that reason, Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Texas Christian University fans should all sleep well tonight.

To grasp what survival means within the context of the bigger picture this season for each of these Texas teams, it helps to take the season one week at a time. In Week One, the box score of the Baylor-Texas State game saw the Bears squeak out a nine-point victory over the Bobcats. At first glance, this may look like a Power 5 team struggling against a Group of 5 team, indicating a long season for the Bears may be on the horizon.
