Before I ever begin to write my weekly contribution to this newspaper, I always glance at my desk calendar making certain what I’m composing is relevant and generally coincides with the publication dates.

Well, it so happens that this week I seemed to have hit a trifecta of topics in these early days of September. One date in particular is relevant to me in a very personal way. This first Sunday in September would have been my mother’s 101st birthday had she not passed away in 2003.
