Guadalupe County residents can rest a little easier for the next few decades knowing the county commissioners are dedicated to drafting a playbook.
By adopting a strategic master plan, Guadalupe County joins a select group of government entities in the state who will plan development around a list of guidelines, rules and procedures with clear goals in mind.
Although common in most cities, a county strategic master plan is relatively rare and unprecedented in this county. If any county should do one, Guadalupe is on that list since the rapid growth in both our cities and unincorporated areas continues to boom.
New residents and longtime locals alike will experience great boons, further solidifying what makes this stretch of land great and unique.
The strategic plan will guide transportation, infrastructure and economic development befitting the county’s growth without sacrificing the local culture and heritage. Many towns have lost their image due to unchecked growth. While growth in the area can’t be stopped or slowed, the right set of calls will keep it from spiraling out of control.
The adoption of the plan is not the final step but rather the first. Committees, staff and time will all dictate how the plan plays out, but it is highly doubtful the results will be anything other than beneficial for all residents.
As the residual benefits of a well-ordered county plan become more apparent, Guadalupe County will serve as a shining example other counties can follow. That’s a legacy everyone can be proud of.
