Paddle Seguin

Every summer the students of Seguin ISD have an array of opportunities available right at their fingertips. From exploring the wonders of the H-E-B Foundation Camp in Leakey, learning the ins and outs of archery to programing language and solving code. The district offers more than 20 different MatCamps for free for students to take advantage of from June to August.

While the camps each only last a week, it doesn’t limit the number of things the students get to learn.

These camps offer experiences that many of them wouldn’t have in the regular classroom.

It also gives them something to do in the summer instead of staying at home while their parents are at work. Not all families have the means to go on summer vacations so the MatCamps give the students a chance to do something exciting. Just last week Paddle Seguin, which introduces students to kayaking, saw some success.

The students involved learned how to work as a team, developed a love for the water and gained a boost of confidence.

It’s important not just Seguin ISD, but other organizations continue to have opportunities like these for our youth. Not only do the students benefit from them greatly by gaining new skills, but they have something to remember from summer vacation.

Our Voice is the opinion of the editorial board of the Seguin Gazette.
