Last weekend was definitely one for the books. The Leadership Seguin Class of 2018-19 held its Kickball Tournament and Barbecue Cook-Off fundraiser event to raise money for much needed improvements at the Seguin Little League Fields. Both events were a tremendous success.

The weekend kicked off Friday afternoon as 11 barbecue teams checked in and fired up their pits for the next day of competing. Thankfully the rain held off and the cooler temperature did not get in the way of some good family fun.

There were five events that the teams competed in: Pinto Beans, Chicken Halves, Cook’s Choice, Pork Ribs and Brisket. The judges consisted of community and business leaders, elected officials and first responders. It did not take much convincing to fill the judges seats at the cook-off table.

The Kickball Tournament was a single-elimination tournament that started at 8 a.m., which consisted of 16 teams total. The parking lot was filled and the teams took to the fields in their effort to be crowned champion.

There were unique and fun names, teams of co-workers, families and friends. They had matching team shirts and one team even had its own cheerleading squad. At the end of the day, there would be one team left standing and they were crowned the winner.

The entire weekend was filled with volunteers that all took time out of their busy day to come and support our cause. This was no small feat as there were many other events happening around town at the same time.

Folks were able to see exactly what their support was going towards as the first shade structure was erected next to the concession stand. We hope to install many more as we finish our fundraising efforts this year, providing shade to all those who visit the Seguin Little League fields.

We could not have done this without the help from our sponsors, participants, volunteers, the city of Seguin, Seguin Little League, Seguin Parks and Recreation Department and our amazing Leadership Seguin class.

It’s always wonderful to see the community come together. We truly appreciate everyone and thank you all for your hard work.

I will continue to update all of you on the progress of this project, if you want to know how you can help please contact me directly.
