Time for a Keil apology

Posted: Friday, October 5, 2012 12:00 am

During consideration of candidates for mayor, we concluded one person in particular should make amends in order to close an unhappy chapter for Seguin.

During 2005 and 2006, red flags were raised concerning performance agreement compliance by Story Communications, then a client of the Seguin Economic Development Corporation (SEDC).

To jshurley04: I posted something earlier but it has disappeared! There will be another forum on October the 15th (this coming Monday) covering the county races. The American Legion Auxiliary will, again, be serving, iced tea, cookies, chips and dips
The forums have been well advertised on this site...under "Opinions", check out the Editorials.

If I want to read all the news in the Seguin Gazette - I do it the old fashioned way and purchase the newspaper.

I find it disturbing that the only word I heard about this was after the forum and was posted lest than 3 hours before it began. I appreciate you letting us know, but why was it not posted so that all could see easily? I check the website several times a week and saw nothing posted. Was it posted anywhere?

There definately IS a forum for City candidates at the Legion Hall this evening starting at 6:00 PM. The The American Legion Auxiliary Legislative Committee is furnishing light, iced tea, cookies, cake, chips and dips. Come and submit your own questions to the candidates Be informed before you vote.

The forum for County races will be next Monday at 6:00 PM.

I agree with Mrs. Larsen, you should check the backgrounds and affiliations of the other candidates. At least Mr. Arevalo is upfront about his past and background. jshurley04, I believe there will be a forum this evening. You should go, meet the candidates and decide after that.

Again...check the backgrounds and affiliations of the candidates...for instance, who is supporting the Post Oak dump being proposed to sit on top of the aquifer? (either personally or with a group) The letter explains about Keil but there are City Council votes in the past that prevent me to vote for some...and present affiliations that make me reluctant to vote for others.
There just may be, in this household this year, a "no vote" on that particular race...I am totally disappointed in the list of candidates..
Still, loki, you haven't given me a name to vote for and a reason to do it! Who are those candidates you say are a "good choice"? I really want to know.

That's a good question, but we have several candidates who are a good choice without having a record, and finding Jesus after. What about the candidates that have done many, many good things for Seguin, and not just finding a mistake on a legal document. Also the ones that didn't have to be sorry about something in their past.

Enlighten me...who should I vote for in the Mayoral race? A no vote is a vote for Keil and believe me I have thought of that too. Truly, tell me who should I vote for and why?I am not being sarcastic...I really would like some input here.

So let me get this straight, Rose A. Larsen, since Arevalo had his legal problems before he is an elected official, you mean that's OK... Well good, maybe when Lorenz returns from state jail, he should throw his hat in the ring. I'm sure he'll have at least one backer.... [beam]

The campaign to unseat Councilman Nitsch was all about the SEDC and Story Communications. During his time in office he had an otherwise excellent record and had he not touched the third rail of Seguin politics, he quite possibly would still be serving on the City Council. I kept most if not all newspaper articles on this issue plus taped interviews and records of comments made at candidate forums during the election. Anyone who reads the articles and/or listens to the interviews could not deduce any other reason for certain people not wanting him reelected except in his desire to protect the taxpayers he criticized a sacred cow and stepped on the wrong toes. [sad]

I would be interested to hear about the "other issues" to which you refer. Please, refresh my memory if you would be so kind. The "incident" was not a small thing, but a driving factor in Keil's campaign.
One must look at ALL of the candidates, their connections and associations. While it offers no excuse, Mr. Arevalo was not an elected official...and a Judge to boot...and seems to have turned his life around. If he were to be elected and disgraced the office he would find his name on my sign in downtown Seguin at high noon!

Mrs. Larsen if I remember correctly there were a number of issues why your friend, Mr. Nietsch was not re-elected and the incident you speak of is only one of them. In addition, I find it interesting that you would say you would cast a vote for Mr. Arevalo. Since you have been vocal about other other "elected officials" who have been indicted and not yet convicted. Mr. Arevalo'scriminal record certainly contradicts the stances you have taken on others. Just some thoughts!!!!

I believe I have decided to cast my vote for Mr. Arevalo. He is the only one who has had the courage to confornt the City Coucil over issues of taxes, the City Manager living outside the city as is required by the city charter...etc.

Well, in light of this, I have not choice but to reject Mr. Keil as a candidate for Mayor, taking my choices down to 4. Thanks for the revelation of this issue from one who has only been here for about 6 years.

As someone who does not know the incident you speak of - what is holding the illustrious Mr. Keil back? We do know it is NOT "good common sense"!

@Mrs.Larsen; Thank you for your citizenship! From the utility poles in front of Seguin's dam to the above mentioned issue. The checks and balances in government are not just the seperate branches of government, but it is also the newspapers and most importantly, the citizen! Be prepared to witness a miracle! Again, citizens like you and your husband help truth and justice prevail!

It is not surprising that there has ben only one post concerning this letter, given the over all make up of our city. Just about everyone remembers the events but not many wish to acknowledge their apathy, duplicity, stupidity or even in some cases , cupidity.
Sometimes things swept under the rug have a way of creating an odor, even in City Hall. Mr.Keil will most probably be elected. The point of this letter was meant simply to remind that consumers should always be aware of the small print. It is what it is.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

[sad] I remember all of that too well ... I felt so bad for Mr. Nitsch ... I agree with you and hope Mr. Keil (and the others, who know who they are) is not TOO big to apologize to him.
