Police News for November 19, 2009




SEGUIN — A stereo was stolen in a vehicle burglary reported Monday.

According to a Seguin Police Department report, the owner of a 2000 Buick Regal reported parking the vehicle at 9 p.m. Sunday.

Upon return at 6:45 a.m. Monday, the owner discovered someone had broken into the car through its driver's side window.

Damage to the window was placed at $150. The missing stereo, which included a CD player, was worth $145, the report said.

1000 block, West Court St.

SEGUIN — Copper tubing and wire stolen recently from two air conditioning units caused a $7,000 loss to the owners of a strip shopping center.

The victim reported on Nov. 6 the units behind the center were broken into and copper parts inside removed or damaged.

Under a state law that took effect in 2007, it is a felony to steal copper or other expensive metals.

700 block, Midway Street

Someone stole tent poles stored on the Guadalupe County Fairgrounds property, police report.

Just before noon Saturday, eight sets of poles for 10-foot tents were discovered removed from a secured area behind the Rodeo office.

The poles were worth $300 each, police reported.

1400 block, West Kingsbury St.

SEGUIN — A money order left in an overnight drop slot was apparently stolen late last week, police report.

The victim told officers that a night payment had been left at a commercial business located in the 1400 block of West Kingsbury Street.

When the payment wasn't posted to the customer's account, inquiry revealed the missing money order had been cashed at a local convenience store by someone the victim didn't know, police said.

Investigation is ongoing, police report.

500 N. Camp Street

F. 1200 block, Jefferson Avenue

SEGUIN — Police didn't say how much money was stolen by a burglar who struck while a Camp Street resident was at work Monday, but the theft was one of two burglaries reported where cash was targeted.

According to a Seguin Police Department report, the resident returned on a lunch break to discover a broken window.

The only thing found missing in the home was an unstated amount of cash, police said.

Two hours earlier, police received a report that someone got into a home in the 1200 block of Jefferson Avenue.

Again, cash was stolen. There was no sign of forced entry and no information that the two burglaries were connected. Investigation continues.

3600 block, E. Highway 90

SEGUIN — An alert security man likely interrupted a burglary early Friday, police say.

A night shift security officer called police to the facility, located in the 3600 block of East Highway 90, at 1:20 a.m. Friday to report stepping from a job site trailer to see two Hispanic men in the cab of a nearby semi-rig.

Upon seeing the security man, the two men jumped from the rig and ran for a nearby vehicle, according to a police report.

The vehicle was last seen going eastbound.

There was no apparent damage to the semi-tractor, police said.
