Bulldog Matthew Hickey releases a pitch during the SCAC tournament.

Texas Lutheran student-athletes Trey Albaugh (Tomball/Concordia Lutheran), Matthew Hickey (Houston/Klein Collins), and Thomas Varner (Austin/Bowie) were named to the 2019 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Tournament Baseball Team.

Albaugh, a senior, was named to the team as the designated hitter. Albaugh had the game-tying hit in the Bulldogs' tournament-opening victory over Southwestern. He also was 2-for-3 in the tournament victory Saturday over Trinity.

Hickey, a true freshman, pitched eight shutout innings in TLU's 2-0 victory over Trinity on Saturday. The left-hander struck out three and allowed just four hits in improving to 6-1. The win against Trinity came in Hickey's second career start. He lowered his season ERA to 1.79.

Varner, the team's starting third baseman and a senior, went 8-for-15 (.533) in the conference tournament. Varner had a hit in every game of the tournament, and he had three multi-hit contests. He was 3-for-3 in the tournament win over Southwestern.

TLU (31-12) finished as the runner-up at the conference tournament Sunday. The Bulldogs lost 9-3 and 6-5 to Trinity in the tournament's championship round.

The Bulldogs will lean their NCAA post-season fate next Monday. Trinity received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.
