GERONIMO — Opening night found the Navarro Panthers trading punches with the Port Lavaca Calhoun Sandcrabs for four quarters. But the Sandcrabs landed the decisive blows to down the Panthers by a 33-28 score in a non-district meeting.

The contest was well-worth the price of admission, especially if you are a fan of strong, physical ground games. The Panthers’ Slot-T offense looked much like it does every year, rolling up 369 yards. Brody Whitson led the way with 152 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries and quarterback Nick Billings rushed for a career high 100 yards and one touchdown on eight carries.
