A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, in the Goetz Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Rhonda Robbins officiating.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he was a joy to all who knew him. Samuel was known as “Two” to those who knew him best. He attended A&M College of Texas in 1947. Upon the start of the conflict in Korea, “Two” enlisted in the Army and served with the 25th Division, 35th Regimental Combat Team. “Two” was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received and a Bronze Star for his participation in a battle at Chun Chon, North Korea.
After returning from Korea, Sam returned to A&M to continue his education. While attending A&M he met Eugenia, his wife of 50 years. They moved to Dallas and started a family. Sam was employed at Collins Radio, and retired at 42. He also worked as a real estate investor. Sam was also the first mayor of Weston, Texas. In 1984, Sam and his wife moved to Seguin. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Purney Dunlap, of Dallas; his wife, Eugenia; a sister, Setta; an aunt, Hattie Mae of Ballinger, and a daughter Melissa Dunlap of Seguin. Dunlap III of Plano, Linda Allen and husband Dennis of Tomball, George William Dunlap and wife Lori of Princeton, and Sean Dunlap of Seguin; six grandchildren Julie, April, David Allen, Will, Kyle and Samuel A. Dunlap IV.
