GUADALUPE COUNTY — A 51-year-old San Marcos woman was killed Wednesday afternoon in a collision believed caused when she ran a stop sign.
Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Greg Hendry said Janet Moffett-McGinty died at the scene of the 2:25 p.m. collision at FM 1979 and State Highway 123.
San Marcos and Hays County paramedics treated her at the scene without success.
Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Edmundo “Cass” Castellanos pronounced Moffett-McGinty dead at 3:20 p.m.
Hendry said the accident occurred when Moffett-McGinty, traveling westbound on FM 1979, pulled her 2005 Chevrolet Impala onto State Highway 123 in front of a 1998 Chevy 1500 pickup driven by a Taylor, Texas man.
“She came off of FM 1979, ran the stop sign and was hit by a southbound vehicle on 123,” Hendry said.
The pickup struck the compact car in its passenger side door, demolishing both vehicles.
The driver of the pickup and a passenger in his vehicle were both taken to Austin’s Brackenridge Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.
