Possible sexual contact on bus investigated

SEGUIN — Officials are investigating an incident on a Seguin Independent School District bus in which there might have been sexual contact between two young children.
SISD Spokeswoman Melissa Matthews-Woolard said the incident occurred Tuesday afternoon on a bus that carried pre-school and elementary school students from Weinert and Juan Seguin elementary schools.
She did not divulge any information about the students or staff members involved in the situation for confidentiality reasons.
“When we became aware there had been an incident, we informed the parents of the younger child,” Matthews-Woolard said.
On Wednesday, school officials learned more information, and called in Seguin police and Child Protective Services.
“At that point, our job is to inform the authorities and let them do their job,” Matthews-Woolard said.
All SISD buses have video cameras, and the video shot on the bus was turned over to police.
An adult monitor was placed on the bus Wednesday, the school district official said.
Seguin Police Chief Kevin Kelso confirmed law enforcement officials were reviewing video and conducting interviews, but said little else.
From a police perspective, the chief said, no charges would be filed because the Texas Penal Code doesn’t have a provision for charging children under 10 years of age.
“I believe the boys are 7 and 4,” Kelso said. “We’ve referred it to Child Protective Services.”
