SEGUIN—Time for local businesses to join the fiesta.
Central Park in downtown Seguin will be a vibrant mix of food, family and fun on Sept. 12 for the annual Fiestas Patrias event to celebrate the Mexican day of independence, hosted by the Seguin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
“We really want local businesses and non-profit organizations to be involved,” chamber president Rob Galvan said.
According to Galvan there are still openings for vendors to participate. There will be a mercado featuring crafts and merchandise, and there will also be a community garage sale. Cost per booth at the mercado varies, and cost per booth at the garage sale is $25.
In addition to vendor booths, the chamber is looking for local musicians to showcase at the event. Musicians who are interested in participating may submit a tape or CD to the chamber for consideration. There will also be a tamale contest. Anyone interested in submitting tamales for the contest can contact the chamber. Fiesta Patrias will start the celebration with a 5K run for the fifth year.
Runners may pre-register with the Seguin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, or register the morning of the race. The registration fee is $20. Businesses downtown are invited to join the celebration by decorating their stores and marquis. There will be a downtown decorating contest and a prize for the winner.
Anyone interested in volunteering for the event may contact the Seguin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at 830-372-3151.
