SEGUIN — The Lifegate Lady Falcons continued their battle against the size of their roster as well as the other team as they fell 38-33 to Austin Christian in a non-district game Tuesday.
Krystale Johnston scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Lady Falcons. Her 15 points was the highest individual total by a Falcons player this month.
Adriana Morales also scored in double-figures for the Lady Falcons, tallying 10 points for the game. Morales had both of Lifegate’s successful three-point tries during the contest.
Sandy Schneider and Erica Lloyd each scored four points to round out the scoring for Lifegate. Evie Bowman also played in the game.
Haley Busby led Austin Christian with 18 points.
The Lady Falcons fell behind early and trailed 14-8 at the end of the first quarter. A stronger defensive effort in the second quarter helped the Falcons trim Austin Christian’s lead to 18-16 by halftime.
While the Falcons distributed the ball in the third period on offense, they had trouble stopping the Cougars’ Christina Hatley on the other end. Hatley, who finished the game with 14 points, scored all 12 of Austin Christian’s points in the third quarter.
Austin Christian held a 30-27 at the end of the fourth quarter.
Misfortune struck for the home team in the fourth quarter when Morales went down with an injury, forcing Lifegate to play with only four players. The turn of events allowed the Cougars to pull away with the five-point win.
The Falcons were without the services of Mackenzie Huneycutt.
Morales’ injury forced the cancellation of Lifegate’s non-district game with CASA (Christian Academy of San Antonio) that was scheduled for tonight.
The Lady Falcons’ next scheduled game is Tuesday, when they host Believers Academy in a district contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
