SEGUIN — Authorities Wednesday identified the second victim of a State Highway 123 collision as an 18-year-old Seguin woman.
Department of Public Safety Trooper Jacob McEathron said Sabrina N. Chapman, 18, died at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital-New Braunfels, where she was taken shortly after an accident just north of Koebig Road that occurred at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
McEathron said Chapman was driving a 2004 Jeep Cherokee she had just purchased in San Marcos, and at the time of the accident was trailing a family member by perhaps five minutes or so on her way back to Seguin.
The trooper said the victim’s family was working with him to try to determine why the Cherokee crossed the center line to strike a Honda CR-V driven by Christopher K. Cooper, 34, of College Station.
“It’s still under investigation,” the trooper said. “I still have no clue what caused her to lose control. Her family is helping me to check all avenues.”
Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Edmundo “Cass” Castellanos pronounced Cooper dead at the scene.
Cooper’s wife, Kristin Cooper, 29, was taken by ambulance to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.
A hospital official described her condition as “fair” Wednesday afternoon.
Chapman was found unconscious and lying in the roadway after the accident that demolished both vehicles.
She was put in an ambulance and taken to New Braunfels because rainy and foggy weather conditions prevented the launching of a rescue helicopter.
McEathron said it was uncertain whether the weather had played a role in the crash.
