The clocks rolled back an hour at 2 a.m. today as we exited Daylight Saving Time.
For most people this means an extra hour of sleep. For some who forgot to spin their clocks backward it means showing up early to events.
U.S. fire officials also hope that it provides a reminder to change those batteries in your smoke detectors.
A properly installed and maintained smoke alarm can be the difference between a house fire with everyone outside and a true tragedy that results in the loss of life.
So use this morning to swap out new batteries in all of your smoke detectors and test each of them to make sure the devices are working properly.
It’s also a good time to go over your fire escape plan — how to get out and where to meet.
This is particularly true if you have children in your family.
Enjoy your “extra” hour of sleep, but when you get up and around take these simple steps to try and keep you and your family safe as we head into the holidays.
