PLEASANTON — Navarro (5-1) used its full-court press to erase an eight-point deficit late in Tuesday’s game with Pleasanton, later completing the comeback with a 59-55 win.
“It was a bit of a struggle all night but we were able to overcome it and pull out a victory,” said head coach Darrell Harborth via e-mail. “(It was a) nice team effort.”
Burgandy Partain led the way with 14 points, followed by Erica Conover and Shelby Zamzow, who each scored 10.
This past weekend, the Lady Panthers competed at the Southside Tournament in San Antonio, posting a 3-1 record and eventually winning the consolation championship on Saturday.
Navarro did so convincingly, cruising past San Antonio Kennedy 47-27 after racing out to a 29-11 lead at the half.
The Lady Panthers used a balanced scoring attack, as Valerie Vrana paced the team with nine, followed by eight each from Conover and Sierra Williams.
Navarro faced a much tougher test in order to get the consolation game, edging out San Antonio Jefferson 52-50 after watching the Lady Mustangs almost completely erase an 11-point halftime lead with a 19-9 third quarter run.
Partain and Vrana helped Harborth's team hold on, recording 13 and 12 points in the win, respectively.
The Lady Panthers began play at Southside on Friday afternoon, splitting their first two contests against San Antonio Fox Tech (W, 55-52) and San Antonio Holy Cross (L, 53-44).
The win over the Lady Buffaloes was another comeback effort, as Navarro rallied from a seven-point first-quarter deficit to notch a big victory over a larger school.
Vrana led the way again with 12 points, followed by seven apiece from the trio of Williams, Partain and Samantha Nichols and six each from Conover, Zamzow and Amber Goebel.
In the loss to Holy Cross, Vrana put in another dozen points, with Conover, Goebel and Zamzow all adding six.
Navarro gets back to action tonight, hosting county rival Marion at 5:15 p.m. before enjoying a few days off for the Thanksgiving holiday.
