CIBOLO — An employee was injured late Tuesday morning in an explosion and fire that heavily damaged a warehouse.
Cibolo Volunteer Fire Department Lt. Robert Gardner said firefighters from Cibolo, Schertz and Selma were dispatched to Robles Service Group in the 700 block of North Main Street at 11:09 a.m. after an explosion was reported in a warehouse on the site.
While enroute, firefighters were told that a welder who was working in the building suffered serious burns to his face and upper torso.
He was treated at the scene and then was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, where he was in stable condition Tuesday afternoon.
The warehouse building was fully in flames when firefighters arrived. They stopped the blaze from extending into a nearby office and adjacent warehouse.
Marion Volunteer Fire Department provided coverage in Cibolo under mutual aid.
Gardner said the precise cause of the explosion and resulting fire had not been determined Tuesday afternoon.
The name and age of the injured employee were not released.
Company officials said he was a long-time employee, and was expected to recover.
