Pecan Fest event hitting its stride

Published October 25, 2009

If you wanted to see how much the Pecan Fest and Heritage Days has grown you didn’t have to look very far this week.

You just had to head downtown to take in the crowds milling about at the car show, shopping the vendor tables and checking out all of the items on display and events going on.

For those with a more creative flair, there was also a full-fledged art and film festival going on.

Or you could head out to the Texas Agricultural and Heritage Center — better known by the locals as “The Big Red Barn” — where people were taking in music, the smell of delicious food and getting a glimpse at how people lived before the age of instant electricity and high technology with demonstrations of metal working and quilting — even some good old fashioned fun like pumpkin pushing.

All of this is possible because some very talented people, groups and organizations came together to create a festival with something for absolutely everyone.

What started as an idea to try and put Seguin — and its famous pecan — more firmly on the map in line with Luling’s Watermelon Thump and Poteet’s Strawberry Festival, is starting to gain real traction.

Need evidence?

Seguin now has its own flavor of HEB’s Creamy Creation ice cream.

All of this helps create an immensely positive spotlight on this community and all of the things it has to offer.

With the arrival of Caterpillar and State Highway 130, the future for Seguin looks bright indeed.

If this year’s Pecan Fest and Heritage Days is any indication, the future could also be a little bit nuttier.
