Brothers booked in shootout

Published December 24, 2009

Police arrested two brothers as suspects following a Tuesday night shootout in which shots were fired into a home in the 1100 block of Avenue D.

Seguin Police Lt. Jerry Hernandez said a gunfight involving Aaron Medrano, 31, and Jesus Medrano Jr., 33, and a resident whose identity authorities didn’t reveal took place at about 10:15 p.m. not far from Munchie’s grocery store.

No one was reported to have been injured in the confrontation, which police believe may have stemmed from an incident that occurred earlier.

“There was a disturbance and it appears they were shooting at a house,” Hernandez said. “One of the residents fired shots up in to the air after.”

Seguin Police Cpl. John Crady said when officers arrived they located and detained Aaron Medrano — along with a Glock 9mm pistol — and he was booked on allegations of unlawfully carrying a weapon and evading arrest, as well as on a city warrant for a previous alleged offense of not having a driver’s license.

His bail was set at $8,420 and he remained in county jail late Wednesday.

Following the first arrest, officers picked up Medrano’s older brother, Jesus, on allegations of evading arrest and possession of three different controlled substances — crack cocaine and two different types of pills.

“Jesus Medrano was also captured and arrested,” Hernandez said. “There was a rifle and some drugs were seized.”

Hernandez said officers reported Jesus Medrano attempted to hide the weapon and the alleged illegal drugs.

His bail was set at $38,000 and he remained in custody late Wednesday.

During Wednesday morning’s investigation, detectives discovered bullet holes on the home the gunfire was directed at but are currently unsure as to what the motive is.

“We’re still trying to figure out why,” Hernandez said.

The house was hit three times but the number of shots fired was not known, the detective said.

The incident remains under investigation, and more charges are possible, Hernandez said.
