Alwin Eugene Pape, Jr.

Alwin Eugene Pape Jr., entered into eternal rest on Oct. 19, 2009, at the age of 65 years.
He was born on July 14, 1944, in Seguin, the son of Alwin E. Pape, Sr. and Gertrude Bolton Pape. Alwin received his early education at St. Joseph’s Catholic School (now St. James). He was graduated from Seguin High School in 1962. Alwin graduated from the University of Texas in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy and economics. He received his Juris Doctor degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1974 and was licensed to practice law in October 1974. He practiced law in Arlington, Texas, and in Seguin. Most recently he was a partner with Robin V. Dwyer in the law firm Pape and Dwyer, L.L.P.
During his career, Alwin was licensed to practice in federal district court in the Northern and Western Districts of Texas. He was licensed to practice before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and before the United States Supreme Court. Alwin received an honorable discharge from the United States Army Reserve in 1969. He was a past member of the Noon Lions Club in Seguin.
Early in his career he taught business law at Texas Lutheran College, now Texas Lutheran University. He also served as the city attorney of Seguin. Alwin is survived by his wife, Lilia G. Pape; other survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Denice Pape, and their sons, Alexander and Zachary of Cleveland, Ohio; daughter, Sharon Pape of San Antonio; mother, Gertrude B. Pape, of Seguin; brothers, Dr. Robert Pape of Seguin and Arthur Pape of Strasbourg, France; sisters and their husbands, Zara and H. D. Dewhirst of Knoxville, Tenn., and Alta and E. E. Forshage of McAllen, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews. Alwin was preceded in death by his father Alwin E. Pape Sr. and his son, Glenn Michael Pape, both in 1976.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. Rosary will be recited Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church followed by the Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Msgr. Dennis Darilek officiating. Interment will follow in San Geronimo Cemetery. Alwin’s and Lilia’s nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include members of the Guadalupe County Bar Association. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
