SEGUIN — The city of Seguin and the Texas Department of Transportation are teaming up to make the city a little greener.
During Tuesday’s council meeting, City Planning Director Don Smith will make a presentation about five landscape projects planned for the area.
The city entered into an agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for landscape planting at locations including State Highway 46 North at Interstate 10; S.H. 46 North at the FM 78 interchange; the juncture of I-10 and U.S. Highway 90 West; State Highway 123 at the 123 Bypass split (near the Continental plant); U.S. 90 Alternate at Lullwood Drive; and FM 464 at U.S. 90 W.
Smith said work is planting is expected to begin in the spring and all sites will get landscape irrigation systems. The sites at S.H. 46 and FM 78, I-10 and U.S. Highway 90 will be natural planting areas that will require minimal maintenance. The other three sites will have a more formal design and will require more maintenance.
TxDOT is scheduled to maintain the sites for three years before the city takes over responsibilities.
On Tuesday, City Council will also hold the first public hearing on proposed changes to council districts. Some districts need adjustments because of recent annexations.
Also during the meeting, City Engineer Joe Ramos will make a presentation on the TxDOT Safe Routes to School Sidewalk Grant project.
City Council will meet today at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, 210 E. Gonzales St.
