SEGUIN — Festival goers went nuts for Pecan Fest and Heritage Days.
Crowds turned out around downtown Seguin for the annual Pecan Fest and Heritage Days.
Visitors had a chance to pick up everything from clothing to pecan pies at this year’s festival.
Lori Pape of Pape’s Pecan House said this was one of the her favorite community events.
“We love coming out here,” Pape said. “We always have a good time and get to meet lots of people. It gives us a chance to show people a taste of what we have over at Pape’s.”
Pecans weren’t the only thing on the agenda for this year’s festival.
Vintage and specialty cars lined the streets for the Sunrise Lions Club car show. The Wilson Pottery Foundation set up shop at the Heritage Village for their annual pottery show.
Vendors from all around set up tents to show off their wares.
Gary Holtz of St. Hedwig said this was his second year to make the trip to Seguin for the festival with his wife and sister.
“We’re having a really good time,” Holtz said. “This year’s event seems a lot bigger than last year’s event. There are a whole lot of people out here. We really like looking at everything.”
The Seguin Conservation Society set up a bake sale with a variety of pecan pies to benefit the society.
Greg Ander of the Seguin Conservation Society said it was good to see such a large amount of visitors to the festival.
“Everyone’s having a good time,” Ander said. “It’s been great talking to everyone and giving the history of the Heritage Village.”
Other area groups also turned out to raise money for local non-profit organizations.
The Seguin Zonta Club sold soup to benefit the local food pantry.
Renee Cutcher of the Zonta Club said the event was very successful.
“This is our third year at the Pecan Fest,” Cutcher said. “The turnout has just been wonderful. It’s great to have events like this in the city.”
The festival didn’t stop in downtown Seguin.
The Texas Agriculture Education and Heritage Center also took part in the festivities. Marilyn Altwein of the center said it was an excellent day for the festival.
“The weather couldn’t have been better,” Altwein said. “This event is just terrific. There is a beehive of activity. I really like seeing everyone walking around and checking out everything we have here to offer.”
The center had plenty of things to offer for people to see. Hay rides, sausage making, and vendors were there. Visitors could also explore the heritage village, and enjoy live music in the red barn.
