Last minute not too late for some shoppers
Published December 24, 2009
SEGUIN — If Santa Claus needs to make a last-minute stop before continuing his trip around the globe, Seguin has a few places that will offer those must-have presents on Christmas Eve and Christmas day.
Wal-Mart co-manager Jenny Porche says her store will be offering their low-prices all the way to Christmas Eve.
“We’re closed on Christmas Day but we will be open until 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve,” Porche said. “We do big business on Christmas Eve. Seguin is famous for last-minute sales the day before Christmas.”
Even though Wal-Mart will be open on Christmas Eve, Porche recommends stopping by the store before Thursday.
“We will have lots of people on staff to help our customers,” Porche said. “But if it was me, I’d come in earlier to avoid the crowds.”
CVS will be one of the few places in town open on Christmas Day. Store manager Steve Fowler said business will not stop for the holiday.
“I haven’t been here very long, but I heard this store gets pretty busy on Christmas Day,” Fowler said. “I guess there aren’t a lot of places open on Christmas in Seguin. So we’re expecting some decent crowds.”
Fowler said shoppers shouldn’t expect special deals on the holiday though.
“The deals and sales there will be on Christmas day will be going on all week,” Fowler said. “So people can stop by any day this week and get the same prices as they would on Christmas. And we have a lot of sales to offer right now.”
Walgreens will also be open on Christmas Day for last-minute shoppers. However, the pharmacy will be closed. Store manager Tami Pereira said they are expecting a lot of shoppers over the holiday.
“We have extended hours up until Christmas Eve,” Pereira said. “We will be open until midnight this week, and on Christmas Eve we will have our regular hours, and on Christmas we will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.”
Pereira said the store will be stocked with a lot of last-minute gift ideas, but she recommends coming in before the big day.
“We have been steadily crowded all week,” Pereira said. “You’ll be able to find the same deals today as you would on Christmas.”
