Fundraiser brings Santa for a November visit
Published November 18, 2009
SEGUIN — Christmas has gone to the dogs at the Guadalupe County Humane Society.
Santa Claus is making a special stop this year for the annual Humane Society Christmas event on Nov. 20-21 from 10-4 p.m. For $15, Santa will take a picture with kids or pets or both, said Margarett Svatek, the Guadalupe County Humane Society president.
“Kids or pets, it doesn’t matter,” Svatek said. “You can bring your horse out here, and Santa will go outside to take the picture.”
Svatek said the Humane Society has been putting on the event since 1988, and it has turned into an annual reunion.
“Families who have adopted their pets from us come out,” Svatek said. “We get to see how they’re doing, and they get their picture taken. It’s sort of like a family reunion for us.”
Don’t worry about packing a lunch, Svatek said, there will be plenty of food.
“We’re also having a bake sale,” Svatek said. “We are really encouraging people to donate to the bake sale. Foods that don’t have to be refrigerated would be best.”
Papa Murphy’s Pizza will donate some pies to the event that will be sold by the slice. There will also be chopped barbecue sandwiches and homemade chili. There will also be some vendors and craft booths with wares for sale, Svatek said. All proceeds will benefit the Guadalupe County Humane Society.
“This is one of our big events,” Svatek said. “It’s a really wonderful time, and I really encourage everyone to come out and participate.”
