Local man, 23, is killed in stabbing

SEGUIN — A 23-year-old local man was stabbed in the chest and killed in a dispute early Sunday, authorities say.
Seguin Police Detective Sgt. Aaron Seidenberger reported a sheriff’s deputy was flagged down at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of South Guadalupe and West Nolte streets by two women who reported having a stabbing victim in their car.
Officers found Raymond Pelcastre, 23, of Seguin, laying on the floorboard in the rear of the vehicle covered in blood and not moving, Seidenberger said.
Police and EMS were called to no avail, Seidenberger reported. Pelcastre had suffered a two-inch stab wound to the left side of his chest.
Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Edmundo “Cass” Castellanos said Seguin paramedics had pulled Pelcastre from the vehicle when he arrived at the scene.
Castellanos said he saw an obvious stab would between Pelcastre’s breastbone and left nipple, and that the man was not breathing.
“You could see it,” Castellanos said. “It was right where the heart is at.”
There were no vital signs, and Castellanos said he requested an autopsy, which was performed in Lockhart on Sunday afternoon.
“Initial cause of death report is the stab wound to the chest, but it’s just preliminary,” Castellanos said. “We’ll get the full report with toxicology later on.”
Investigation revealed Pelcastre got into a dispute with another man at the Jack-In-The-Box located at State Highway 46 and Interstate 10, Seidenberger said.
Pelcastre then followed the other man in his vehicle to the intersection of SH 46 and West Court Street, where a physical altercation resulted in the middle of the intersection in which Pelcastre was stabbed.
The suspect left the scene, and the women reported they were enroute to the hospital with Pelcastre when they saw the deputy and stopped.
Seidenberger said a man who admitted his involvement in a physical altercation later surrendered at the police department and spoke with detectives, who took his statement and then released him from custody.
“The guy came in on his own and cooperated with the detectives,” Seidenberger said.
Police didn’t identify the other man involved in the dispute except to say he was local and had no known connection with Pelcastre, Seidenberger said. It was also unclear what the motive for the dispute was, the detective said.
Seidenberger said the incident remains under investigation and that the case would be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for presentation to the grand jury.
“We got with the DA, and we’re asking the DA to take it to the grand jury,” Seidenberger said. “The grand jury will learn all the details and will make their decision whether to indict from there.”
