SISD gets tech boost from funds
Published September 8, 2009
SEGUIN — A local school district and an educational program recently received a financial boost.
Congressman Henry Cuellar presented two large checks to Seguin ISD and the Marion Wings For Life Program, at the Texas Agricultural Education and Heritage Museum on Friday morning. The money was a portion of the funds from federal stimulus dollars.
“Stimulus dollars have been good, not only for agriculture and transportation, but also for schools,” Cuellar said.
The money is from Schools and Libraries Program of the Universal Service Fund, commonly known as “E-Rate,” that allows schools to purchase technology for use in the classrooms and around the school. Seguin ISD received $252,215 and the Marion Wings For Life Program received $5,175.
“The stimulus money is coming in waves,” Cuellar said. “Next year there will be another wave of money.”
Eric Bainter and Rina Acosta, the executive director for Wings presented Cuellar with an appreciation plaque.
“We are very grateful,” Acosta said. “This affects our education program by buying the technology that is used to teach students.”
Each of the school districts will receive a portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act money that will be allocated over time. Seguin ISD received a total allocation of $2,187,595, Marion received a total allocation of $574,013, and Navarro received a total allocation of $893,519. The total ARRA funds for Guadalupe County public school districts is $12,137,885.00.
