Lady Bulldogs swat Somerset

Published January 28, 2010

SOMERSET — There was no letdown for the Marion girls basketball team (21-4, 8-1) Tuesday night on the road, as the Lady Bulldogs pounded Somserset 76-52.

The home team made it tough for three quarters, entering the fourth down just nine, but head coach Kollyn McWhinney's club took care of that with a 25-10 run over the final eight minutes of play.

Senior Reyna Noriega once again led the team in scoring with her 18 points, also adding four assists in the win.

Sophomore Kyana Fennell added 13 points, five rebounds and four blocks, while fellow second-year player Rachel Farris recorded a double-double (12 points, 15 rebounds), notching an additional four blocked shots.

Ashley Jacobsen came up with eight points, five steals and four assists, with Maegan Hartman contributing eight points and three boards.

Diana Heinrich finished with six points and pulled down three rebounds in the victory.

Marion will now turn its attention to Luling, with the Lady Eagles set to come to town Friday for a 6:30 p.m. showdown.
