When one labors in education for nearly 40 years as I did, the faces of one’s students become imprinted in one’s mind forever. I still remember so many of them although I would be hard pressed to put a name to most of them.

One student I will never forget knew very early in my teaching career at an affluent middle school for sixth, seventh and eighth graders. The school itself was small enough for teachers to pretty well know all of the students whether they were in their classes or not.
