BASTROP — The Navarro Panthers (10-3) showed no lack of heart and grit but came up just a bit shy on the scoreboard, losing a tough 35-28 state quarterfinal contest to the Cuero Gobblers (13-1) on Friday night.

The game came down to the last 23 seconds. That was when the Gobblers broke a 28-28 tie with a 44-yard touchdown pass that finally put them ahead to stay.
